Cooling Summary
Cooling Summary - Part 1
Cooling system selection is influenced by site conditions (particularly meteorology)
and the water - power cost trade off.
- There are two major cooling systems:
- Closed systems - which utilises an intermediate heat transfer media
- Open system - which applies cooling directly
- Cooling systems are also classified by the use of different heat transfer medium to reject heat to the atmosphere:
- Wet / water cooling
- Dry / air cooling
- Hybrid / water - air cooling
- 'Once through' wet cooling systems requires large quantities of water - however has a low water consumption rate. It is generally the cheapest cooling solution.
- Drying cooling has the lowest water cooling water consumption - however it is the most expensive and requires more parasitic load than other cooling systems.

The primary classification between cooling systems is Open and Closed.
